Born and raised in Chengdu, Sichuan (China), Chen migrated to Georgia with her family at the age of 14. She graduated from Emory University in 2005, with a BBA degree in Marketing and International Business.

At a young age, Chen had the passion for performing. It was after she clinched the 1st runner-up position in the 2005 Miss Chinese International Pageant that she signed an 8 year contract with Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB). Since then, it had kicked start her television and film career in Hong Kong's entertainment industry. Chen's mother tongue is in Mandarin, but she is known to be multilingual, and can speak fluently with ease in English, Cantonese, and Japanese as well.

Over the course of 8 years, Chen first started out as a host on various variety shows, before slowly taking on supporting roles to leading roles in TVB's television dramas. Through hard work and experiences, Chen soon established herself as one of Hong Kong's celebrated actresses, landing herself roles in films and some of TVB's heavyweight television dramas.

Some of her notable dramas and movies include Heart of Greed (2007), Steps (2007), Moonlight Resonance (2008), Turning Point (2009), No Regrets (2010), Triumph in the Skies 2 (2013), Will Power (2013), Tales from the Dark 2 (2013). Her latest film in the making for 2014 is The Treasure, which is directed by Gordon Chan and Ronald Tsang.

Chen's contract with TVB ended in 2013, and she has been self-managed since then. Always taking great pride in her job, Chen considers acting as a lifelong learning journey, and is dedicated to continuously hone her skills at each step of the way, to further challenge and improve herself as an actress.

Released her first Canto-pop debut album, Beautiful Life, on 31 July 2012, garnering her awards in the Best Newcomer category across various music platforms. Within a week from the launch of her album, Beautiful Life had climbed up to first place on HMV's 'Asian Album Top Sales Chart'.
Since 2009, Chen has been sporadically participating in the music scene, singing theme songs for The Stew of Life, Links to Temptation, and Queens of Diamonds and Hearts. In 2010, Chen officially signed with recording label, Stars Shine International.
Winner of the Best Actress in a Supporting Role category at the 16th Asian Television Award in 2011 for her role in No Regrets.

Chen ended her 8 year contract with Television Broadcast Limited (TVB) in June 2013, and is managed by a private agency.

Chen was nominated in the Best New Performer category at the 29th Hong Kong Film Awards, when she first tried her hands in the film industry with her leading role in Turning Point.
In her 8 years with TVB, Chen had the opportunity to play many different roles; some requiring her to learn sign language, pole dancing, and even fly an aeroplane.
Chen acted in her first Mainland Chinese drama, Sound of the Desert in 2012. It is based on the historical romance novel, Ballad of the Desert by Tong Hua
